In a world that is constantly evolving, especially with respect to the ever-changing digital landscape, the disparity in access when it comes to technology and digital literacy amongst the underserved youth in India continues to be a significant issue.
According to The 2020-2021 Multiple Indicator Survey, 70% of the Indian youth did not know how to send emails with files attached. In spite of the country’s steady growth in terms of digital advancement, a study by UNICEF even reported that 3 out of 4 young individuals lack in skills required for employment, more so within the modern economy.
Such a digital divide is further compounded by minimal access and awareness about basic digital literacy within rural, semi-urban, and underserved populations. With little to no internet access, tools, training, or inclusion of technology in the syllabi taught, the youth here face extended barriers that further limit their chances at engaging with the benefits that come from professional opportunities. A fact that often goes unnoticed too, is how developing such crucial soft skills aids communication in the case of initial job interviews and overall adjustment within office environments.
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the Employment for Empowerment Foundation (E2F) was founded to tackle existing challenges head-on. By empowering the youth from such communities with the tools and skills required to succeed, E2F’s mission is to bridge the digital divide and create more inclusive, equitable and sustainable employment opportunities for all eager young minds in India.
